Leeds United will miss the aerial power of Pontus Jansson for their Championship clash against Rotherham on Saturday afternoon, according to Phil Hay.

Jansson misses the New York Stadium showdown as he serves a one-match suspension for the two yellow cards he received in last weekend’s defeat to Bristol City.

Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Phil Hay reported on his personal Twitter account after arriving at the ground that Jansson’s “aerial dominance might have been handy today”.

OPINION

It’s great news for Rotherham that Jansson has been prevented from taking his place in the Leeds starting XI at the home of their Yorkshire rivals. How Marcelo Bielsa would love to be able to name both Jansson and Liam Cooper, Leeds’ two best headers of the ball, in his starting XI in a match in which the visitors are expected to come under pressure in the air. Paul Warne’s side are set up to be physical, uncompromising, play a direct style and look to win second balls. Jansson has been outstanding in recent months, and played some of the best football of his United career. Bielsa has already revealed that available-again Kalvin Phillips will pair up with Cooper in an emergency partnership that will at least give the visiting side the benefit of the midfielder’s impressive distribution from the back. Phillips is at his most effective 30 yards higher up the pitch, but he has at least had experience of playing centre-back on a number of occasions in recent months.
