Leeds United legend Brian Deane shared that he thought the whole spy scandal surrounding the club was a load of nonsense.

The 50-year-old who had two separate spells with the Whites shared that any club in the country would be proud if their manager had conducted themselves like Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa had.

Deane added that he had no problem with what the Leeds boss had done and shared his disbelief over pundits who reacted to the spy scandal by having a go at the manager.

“It’s all nonsense. Any club in the country – if they found out that their manager was doing this kind of work, I’m sure that they would be very proud of him,” said Deane, as quoted by the Daily Mirror.

“This is a guy who has come in and inherited most of the squad and not spent huge amounts of money.

“He has made the difference through his mentality. The players respect him and a lot of that is down to the work he does and the way they prepare for matches.

“I haven’t got a problem with what he’s done. He has shown that he will leave no stone unturned to get this club back into the Premier League.

“I’ve been very surprised with some of the comments this week. Some of the pundits who have had a go, I’ve been disappointed with.

“A lot of them haven’t managed in the past. And as a manager you have to try and get every little advantage that you can. The only thing that matters is the club.”

OPINION

Leeds United’s spy scandal has been debated amongst pundits for what seems like a eternity now and yet the debate rages on. This time a Leeds legend in the form of Deane has waded into the discussion and speaks a lot of sense with his verdict. It is crazy that some pundits are fuming that a manager is trying to give his side every advantage he can, without breaking any rules, as why wouldn’t you? Bielsa, as stated by the BBC Sport, has even held his hands up over sending a spy to watch Derby County recently and his honesty is refreshing to say the least. If the Leeds boss had lied about his actions or been sneaky about his methods then perhaps there would be a case to be made about why pundits should fume, however he has done nothing of the sort. Therefore hopefully this whole spy scandal which has dominated the headlines will soon be put to bed when everyone sees sense just like Deane.
