Celtic must hang on to McGregor

One of the star players for Celtic this season has been Callum McGregor – so it should come as no surprise to hear that Premier League sides are sniffing around.

Bournemouth – who have been immensely impressive so far this season – could well be the next English outfit to poach a star talent from Parkhead, with a report from the Scottish Sun registering their interest in the Hoops man.

The Scottish international has been incredible for the Hoops this term, and Brendan Rodgers – who will be desperate to keep him from leaving – will not need telling twice just how important the 25-year-old is to his ambitions of another treble.

To keep Scott Brown out of the Bhoys’ midfield is no mean feat, and McGregor has more than justified his inclusion ahead of his recently returned captain. Sitting in a deeper role he is able to play the kind of passes that can cut sides open in seconds, and was devastatingly good against Kilmarnock on Saturday.

If Rodgers is serious about maintaining his team’s dominance, he must keep hold of his new hero, even if it means another of the Celtic talents leaving at his expense.

If McGregor was to go, then the Bhoys’ reign of dominance over the last two years is under serious threat of collapsing and after seeing Stuart Armstrong and Moussa Dembele leave over the summer would be the beginning of the end.
