Tottenham are ready to bench Harry Kane for their League Cup clash against Arsenal on Wednesday night, according to the Times.

The England international has been a virtual ever-present for Spurs this season, but Mauricio Pochettino revealed he missed training on Tuesday morning due to a cold.

The Times report Spurs are set to replace Kane with Son Heung-Min if he does not shake off his sold, and he will be joined in a new-look front three along with Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli.

OPINION

Should Kane start on the bench and Spurs crash out of the League Cup, Mauricio Pochettino would certainly face further accusations of wasting a golden opportunity to secure the first trophy of his magnificent reign. The only blip on his CV is the absence of something to fill the trophy cabinet of the new stadium. Kane has started 16 of the club’s 17 Premier League fixtures this season and all six of their Champions League matches. Were the two clubs facing off in a league fixture tonight, you can bet your bottom dollar the star man would be on the pitch from the first whistle. That said, Son is a real handful for defences and has showed in the past he can step into Kane’s shoes and deliver the goods. He is not the complete all-round package of the England man – who is? – but he’s quick, has great movement and gets in excellent goalscoring positions. Spurs will carry a major threat up front if the South Korean deputises at Emirates Stadium.
