Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe will be Tottenham’s number one target should manager Mauricio Pochettino leave in the summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper report that Spurs are facing up to a fight to keep hold of their beloved boss, with the Argentine wanted by both Manchester United and Real Madrid.

The Mail claim that Howe is a prime target for the club should he end up leaving, with the Cherries boss known for his attractive football and solid man management.

The 41-year-old is yet to win any major honours with Bournemouth, but did lead the club from League Two into the Premier League, and was named the Football League Manager of the Decade in 2015.

OPINION

Obviously everyone involved with Tottenham will be desperate for Pochettino to stay, with the Argentine mastermind having transformed the club since his arrival almost five years ago. Pochettino has taken the club from occasional top-four contenders into a Champions League club on the verge of joining the big time. While he is still yet to win any silverware with Tottenham, that is surely only a matter of time with the squad he has built. His work has not gone unnoticed among the top sides in Europe, with both Real and United linked with a move for Pochettino for a while now. The Argentine has never openly suggested he wants to leave Tottenham, but a lack of financial backing in recent windows does raise questions. Obviously there is the new stadium on the way, which he will be keen to make a fortress for Tottenham, but that is unlikely to keep him around if Daniel Levy fails to back him properly in the market. Should he leave then Howe would be a good replacement, but one which would likely leave Spurs fans underwhelmed after so many promising years under Pochettino.
