Sky Sports pundit David Pundit has slammed Leeds United “idiot” Ezgjan Alioski and claimed his dive against Reading has left a “sour taste”.

The former United midfielder was unimpressed that the attacking midfielder tried to con referee Mike Dean into awarding a penalty in his side’s 1-0 midweek Championship win and explained the player looked so ridiculous.

“The more times you look at Alioski’s dive the more ridiculous it looks,” Prutton told the Yorkshire Evening Post. “Some people would call what Alioski was trying to do clever, and some would call it devious but had he just left it a fraction of a second later then he probably would have had a natural penalty rather than a yellow card for diving.

“If you are going to try and get a penalty like that then try and make it a tad more believable next time so that you don’t look like an idiot.

“The other side of it is that he has been a consistent performer for Leeds this season and this does leave a temporary sour note.”

OPINION

Alioski already had a giant question mark next to his name, in the eyes of many supporters, as a result of his mixed performances over the last month or so. His conduct at Reading, when he was caught red-handed trying to win a penalty when he would have probably got one anyway had he let nature run its course, means the jury is not so much out on whether he should retain his ever-present starting status in this season’s Championship but virtually made up its mind on the guillotine. Marcelo Bielsa is not one to be swayed by public opinion, and often opts for the unorthodox move when the blindingly obvious is staring fans in the face. It has mostly worked a treat at Leeds this season. But Alioski, who was hooked at half-time on Tuesday night, is shortly running out of last chances, and it would be something of a shock if he was named in the starting XI to face Sheffield United at lunchtime today.
