OPINION
To say the entire Leeds United fanbase is in meltdown at the clip of Patrick Bamford’s ludicrously brilliant volleying being met by Marcelo Bielsa running halfway across the training pitch to embrace him with a hug is almost an understatement. It is brilliant footage from the official Leeds Twitter account, showing Bamford getting back up to speed after a knee injury that has ruled him out since the start of September and the softer side of manager Bielsa, whose caricature paints him as a sergeant major-style coach who runs players into the ground while drilling them into patterns of play through actions practised hundreds of times at the training ground. Pontus Jansson’s claim he didn’t speak to Bielsa during the month after he returned from the World Cup doesn’t quite square with the footage showing Bielsa’s reaction to Bamford’s goal. An ice-cold coaching obsessive? Hardly. He takes as much delight in long-time injured Bamford’s perfect finish as a key Championship goal.
