A section of Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to call for Ezgjan Alioski to be shifted to left-back for Wednesday’s Championship clash against Ipswich Town.

The Macedonia international has started all 13 of Leeds’ league matches this season on the left side of the attack.

But many supporters believe he should drop back to defence while first choice left-back Barry Douglas is out injured.

COMMENTARY:

The calls for Alioski to drop back to left-back are becoming incessant from supporters, who believe he has the work ethic and defensive nous to make a success of what would be a new position. Certainly, the 2018-19 league ever-present is struggling for form, and has been, if truth be told, since the last international break. Saturday’s performance against Blackburn summed up Leeds’ lack of penetration and coherence. Alioski’s end product was non-existent for most of the time as he was once again started on the left flank in an attacking role. Leeds need more from the Macedonian, both in terms of creativity and invention. In many ways, he would be perfect at left wing-back, a position that would take advantage of his work ethic and comfort on the ball, without requiring him to be a regular source of goals. However, Marcelo Bielsa rarely does the obvious or the orthodox, so he might hold off changing Alioski against Ipswich.
