Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear has confirmed that Izzy Brown is working towards a January return from injury, and many fans have taken to Twitter to react to the update.
Speaking in the programme notes ahead of their Championship clash v Brentford on Saturday, Kinnear revealed that the Chelsea loanee was set for a return after Christmas, with the club not paying anything towards his loan until he is fit.
Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay relayed the news on his personal Twitter account:
Been fairly widely reported already but from Angus Kinnear’s programme column today, Izzy Brown looking at January before hitting his peak and Leeds paying next to nothing for him until he plays: pic.twitter.com/XaUhVAbsrE

I think it’s a clever signing!!! Would have been lots of competition for him in jan and he’s already familiar with players and tactics ?

Clearly a very good player and one which is believed will be needed in jan onwards.
Good business and builds on what seems already a good relationship with Chelsea which can only be beneficial in the long term— Liam (@LRoche04) October 6, 2018

It’s a decent deal, gets him in the door, intergrate with his teammates, before January when he can come and add to the squad

Basically a January signing, who will be fully fit, knows Bielsa's philosophy/tactics inside out and can slot straight in should Saiz be showing fatigue. Lovely stuff.

OPINION
These Leeds fans seem pretty happy with the club’s handling of this situation regarding Brown, and why shouldn’t they be? The Whites have snapped up a brilliant young player, and one who is proven in the Championship, in a deal which will only see them pay up when he is ready to play first-team football. And, in the meantime, while Chelsea are still paying Brown’s wages, the youngster will be getting up to speed with Marcelo Bielsa’s tactics and getting to know his new teammates. That suggests that Brown will be ready to hit the ground running when he does make his long-awaited return to action, and represents a good piece of forward thinking by the Whites. And these Leeds fans, who are being so patient with his recovery, should be in for a treat when that does happen. Brown has torn up the Championship before during his time with Huddersfield and Rotherham, and there is no reason to think that will change at Elland Road.
