Stephen Warnock has revealed he has been blown away by the transformation of Kemar Roofe at Leeds United this season.

The former United left-back, who spent three years at the club from 2012 to 2015, told the Express that the forward is integral to the club’s chance of securing promotion from the Championship.

Asked about Roofe, Warnock said: “He’s a great player, he’s really kicked on. He maybe found things tough last season but that was bound to happen.

“Everybody has been surprised at how well he had adapted during his second season at the club. He’ll be central to how their season goes.”

OPINION

Roofe is the main man at Leeds these days. Now in his third season at the club, the £3million summer-of-2016 signing from Oxford United has emerged as the team’s first choice spearhead, after being used predominantly out wide or in attacking midfield roles in his first two campaigns in a white jersey. Roofe has been a real handful for defences this season and was flying high with four goals in August to be named the Championship player of that month before a calf injury sidelined him for six weeks. Now fully fit again and re-established as the number one striker, Roofe scored in the midweek win over Ipswich Town and it was no coincidence that the presence of the former West Brom man and Pablo Hernandez in the attack coincided with Leeds’ best performance in two months. With his movement, mobility, technical ability, eye for goal and fearsome work ethic, Roofe has most things you covet in a Championship forward. If Leeds are to achieve big things this season, he will need to keep on delivering.
