Leeds United are set to ring the changes for Saturday’s Championship showdown against Blackburn Rovers.

Marcelo Bielsa is expected to reassert the United pecking order and bring a number of senior players straight back into the starting XI for the 12pm Ewood Park kick-off.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report Roofe and Berardi are fit again, while Saturday has long been pinpointed as the match for Pablo Hernandez to make his long-awaited return.

With both full-back slots likely to be available due to the injury to Barry Douglas and the suspension of Luke Ayling, Jamie Shackleton is in line to start at right-back in one of four changes.

The other three would be Roofe, Hernandez and Berardi replacing axed trio Tyler Roberts, Jack Harrison and Stuart Dallas.

Bielsa was at Elland Road last Friday afternoon to watch an Under-23s side featuring returning over-age duo Roofe and Berardi emerge unscathed from their comebacks in a 2-2 draw against Burnley.

Roofe played 70 minutes and Berardi the full 90 minutes after both had been sidelined for a month through injury.

The omissions of striker Roberts and winger Harrison would feel particularly harsh after they did as well as could be expected after being pitched into first-team action.

The 19-year-old Wales international, who was signed for £4million in January (source: Daily Mail), has scored three goals from six matches, while Manchester City loanee Harrison has also impressed.

But Roofe is the senior forward at United and was outstanding in the first six games of the campaign, looking as good as anyone in the division.

Hernandez is also integral to Leeds’ playing style and they have looked less convincing in his absence since the start of September.
