Tyler Roberts can be satisfied with the impact he has made since being given the responsibility of spearheading the Leeds United attack.

Six matches have yielded three goals for the 19-year-old, including a memorable double against Preston North End that gave his United career lift-off.

But it appears Marcelo Bielsa is not entirely convinced by Roberts as he starts making plans to strengthen his squad in the January window.

Football Insider has claimed the Argentine wants three areas of the team strengthened in the forthcoming window; centre-forward, left-wing and centre-back.

Given that Kemar Roofe is set to return for the Championship clash against Blackburn Rovers after the international break and the club have stated Patrick Bamford is in line for a January return, it appears Bielsa is not entirely comfortable with Roberts as his third choice.

The manager has admitted he felt Roberts would be more effective as a wide forward rather than down the middle, although he accepted after Roberts’ performance against Preston his judgement could have been awry.

Leeds’ reported January plans suggest Bielsa is losing faith in Roberts as a player capable of leading the line for an automatic promotion hopeful.

Certainly, the Wales international provides cutting edge and goal creating as well as scoring potential.

But there is a sense that he has started the last six matches, completing the last four, simply because the only alternatives are 17-year-olds with just a few minutes of first team experience.

Roberts is a great player to have in the Leeds squad, but he is not the answer to the team’s need for a proven goalscorer.

They might have to wait until January for that player.
