A section of Middlesbrough fans have reacted with disinterest after their former striker Patrick Bamford was ruled out until the new year with a knee injury.

Leeds United announced on their official website on Tuesday that the 25-year-old will be sidelined for four months after suffering cruciate damage while in action for the club’s Under-23s last Friday.

Boro supporters insisted on social media in response that they have moved on from the forward, who joined United in a £7million transfer from the Riverside Stadium last month.

COMMENTARY:

Boro fans insist they are no longer interested in Bamford after his summer exit, but their claims don’t quite ring true. The striker only left just over a month ago and, at the time, a significant section of the club’s support were far from happy at his exit. Bamford scored 33 goals in 97 appearances for the north-east club, which included a spell on loan from former club Chelsea, as well as the recent 18 months as a permanent member of the squad. Certainly, losing their marquee summer signing is a huge blow for Leeds, even though Bamford has had to play second fiddle to red-hot Kemar Roofe since his summer arrival. It should also benefit Boro, who are vying with the Yorkshire giants for top spot in the Championship, with the closeness of the two sides emphasised by the goalless draw played out just before the international break.
