Sky Sports pundit and commentator Ian Crocker has identified Lassana Coulibaly as one of Rangers’ key players when they take on St Johnstone this Sunday.

The Gers were subjected to a 3-1 defeat at home last season and Crocker believes that Steven Gerrard’s men will avenge that defeat by getting a 2-0 win on the board.

He thinks that that the midfielder will play a key part in a victory for Steven Gerrard’s men, as he believes that the 22-year-old ace “has got something about him.”

However, he did question whether they will be able to secure a positive result on the back of their Europa League tie against Villarreal.

“These two sides are level on points in the fledgling table but Steven Gerrard will hope to see his side avoid a repeat of last season’s 3-1 defeat at Ibrox. Will they head back to domestic action on the back of a positive result at Villarreal?” he told Sky Sports.

“Making a goalscoring return from injury against Dundee, Lassana Coulibaly’s got something about him.”

OPINION

If there is one thing that Steven Gerrard will want to do in the clash with St Johnstone, it will be to avenge the defeat last season and climb above them in the Scottish Premier League table. They are both level on points, and Gerrard obviously knows that this is a must win clash for his players if they are to challenge Celtic in anyway. Coulibaly will prove to be pivotal, just like Crocker has pointed out – his goalscoring form on the back of the recent win against Dundee will have provided him with the confidence to come out and maintain that against St Johnstone. Nevertheless, Gerrard’s men are well equipped to deal with the challenges that St Johnstone pose, especially if they want to show signs of improvement to bridge the gap between themselves and Celtic. Another win on the board for Rangers will bring them a step closer to doing that – and a 2-0 win does not seem hard for them to achieve, especially if they get a positive result against Villarreal on Thursday.
