A section of fans have reacted with anger after Gary Neville claimed Jordan Henderson was to blame for the second Spain goal in their 2-1 over England on Saturday night.
Gareth Southgate’s side took an early lead through Marcus Rashford but the visitors responded with an almost instant equaliser thanks to Saul Niguez’s low finish.
Rodrigo Moreno then took advantage of poor marking at a free-kick to score the winner from close range after 32 minutes, and Manchester United legend and pundit Neville pointed the finger at Henderson in Sky Sports‘ live coverage of the match.
He claimed Henderson failed to track the run from the free-kick but many supporters disagreed with Neville’s assessment, slamming it as “trash” and “ridiculous”.

COMMENTARY:
Neville was not wrong to single out Henderson as one of the culprits as England failed to properly track their Spain opponents for the second goal scored by the visitors last night. The Liverpool man got his positioning wrong, and England paid the penalty with a first competitive Wembley defeat in 11 years. But those on Twitter digging out Neville were also correct in pointing out that Henderson was not the only England player who fell asleep, with John Stones and Harry Kane also guilty of getting their bearings wrong. Given the Liverpool-Manchester United rivalry, a few of the comments were inevitably skewed against Neville, although a number of fans of other clubs also piped up to defend Henderson, who played 64 minutes of the match before he was replaced by Tottenham midfield anchorman Eric Dier.
Blameless. Amazed at Neville slagging Henderson off for the goal when Stones was fast asleep.

That's exactly how I saw it, but that great coach Gary Neville blamed Henderson.
For being a Liverpool player I guess.#OnceaKnobAlwaysaKnob https://t.co/hDlvCdnMIh— Peter LUFC (@Peter_LUFC) September 8, 2018
Gary Neville attributing no blame on Luke Shaw for Spain's first, to the point he even claims it was Trippier who dived in… Then puts all the blame with Spain's second on Henderson… That's why I avoid his nonsense when I can #ENGESP #ENGSPA #chatsshite

I don't see how Neville can blame Henderson for the second goal. The ball goes nowhere near him and there's more fault with the wall's positioning and allowing Rodrigo to run through easily. #ENGESP
