A section of Leeds United fans have delivered upbeat verdicts on Twitter to an encouraging fitness update from Kemar Roofe.

United revealed yesterday that the forward will be out for two to three weeks with a calf injury starting with tomorrow’s Championship clash against Millwall at the New Den.

Roofe subsequently posted on his personal Twitter account that he is “gutted to be missing the next game” but insisted it is the “time to recover and come back even stronger”.

Many Leeds supporters are encouraged that Roofe made no mention of an extended absence and that he is confident of returning in even better shape.

COMMENTARY:

United fans would be over the moon if Roofe’s absence is a short one and he is back in contention for next Tuesday’s Championship match against Preston North End at Elland Road. Leeds’ medical team have suggested that is unlikely, and it remains to be seen whether the forward can make a super-quick recovery from the calf injury he sustained in training. Certainly, the team will miss him while he’s out. Roofe was named Championship player of the month for his performances in August as he and Leeds flew out of the league starting blocks. Four goals from six matches provided proof that Roofe can cut it as the attack spearhead, with his work-rate and movement on a completely different level to anything seen from a United forward last season. With Patrick Bamford out until the new year, the onus will now fall on rookie Tyler Roberts, unless Marcelo Bielsa pulls a tactical rabbit out of the hat, which can’t be ruled out.
