Stan Collymore believes that Leeds United have the mentality to gain promotion from the Premier League this season.

During a Q&A session on Twitter, a user asked Collymore asked whether the Whites have what it takes to achieve promotion this season after what he has seen of them.

In his response, Collymore said that they do have the mentality to go up – he was just concerned over whether they have the legs to maintain their good form and unbeaten start to the Championship season, whilst also questioning how Marcelo Bielsa’s young players would react if they had a handful of bad results.

OPINION

Leeds have shown so far that they certainly have what it takes to be genuine contenders for promotion this season. They have shown that they can cope with injuries that come their way, and that is exactly the type of mentality that they need to achieve promotion this season. However Collymore is spot on when he questions whether Leeds have the legs to maintain their great start to the campaign. The Championship is a long, tough league, so it is only right to be concerned whether they can keep it up. Nevertheless, if promotion is what they want, then they will have to battle through this season, even if many of them do not have the legs. Rotation of a squad is key to success and this is what Bielsa must do to ensure that his side are in the mix for promotion – which they are more than capable of doing.
