A section of Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to lay into Ben Davies following their side’s 3-1 Premier League win against Fulham on Saturday.
Goals from Lucas Moura, Kieran Trippier and Harry Kane secured the three points and a second consecutive win for Mauricio Pochettino’s side as they got their league campaign off to a flyer at Wembley.
But some Spurs supporters were unimpressed with the performance of Wales international Davies, who started on the left side of the back line ahead of Danny Rose.
This Is Futbol has rounded up some of the best tweets:
Davies’ crossing is terrible and Eriksen’s corners are awful. You’re professional footballers. Practice this shit every week and still struggle to put in decent crosses and set pieces.

Davies crosses have been woeful though. Don’t want Rose to leave #COYS

Spurs have got into so many good positions in wide areas. Davies and Trippier’s deliveries have been poor though. #THFC still hunting for a winner #COYS

Ben Davies – similarly frail defensively to Kieran Trippier without the same attacking quality#COYS #THFC #TOTFUL

Sorry but Ben Davies is not a top quality full back. Massively one footed. Can’t cross for toffees. Jogging back and out of position for their goal. #COYS #THFC #TOTFUL

Davies just doesn’t get back in time for that goal his man left in marked at the back stick 1-1 come on spurs let’s go again #COYS

Great Half, deservedly upfront, should at least be 2, Everyone playing well, Tripper needs to work on his crosses. And Davies is getting exposed by the pace on his side.#COYS

Davies must have nudes of Poch, he’s a liability at the back. #THFC #COYS

Davies is being skinned by Sessegnon! Rose or Aurier for him at HT #thfc #COYS

COMMENTARY:
With Spurs using a three-man defence and wide men Davies and Trippier as wing-backs against Fulham, the onus was on the the pair to bomb forward on the overlap and provide quality deliveries into the opposition box. Despite the convincing scoreline and a fine team performance that wiped away all memories of a difficult pre-season in which the World Cup semi-finalists didn’t figure, fans are right to point out that Davies is not the ideal player for a 3-5-2 formation. His final ball was mediocre on Saturday as supporters were constantly left tearing their hair out at deliveries that were over or under hit, and failed to find their man or reach a dangerous area. With Danny Rose restored to the substitute’s bench, the 25-year-old is under increasing pressure for his place (although there is still the possibility the England international could leave by 31 August cut-off). Competition for places is vital in the top Premier League teams and the fans are correct in stating Davies needs to be kept on his toes.
