Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente has instructed his advisers to find him a new club as he searches for a regular playing role, according to France Football.

The French magazine claim Llorente, 33, was offered to Ligue 1 outfit Marseille, who rejected the chance to sign him on loan this season.

France Football report Marseille do not believe the former Spain international is the answer to their need for a new number nine.

Good move for Tottenham?

Not really. Llorente’s best days are behind him and he is only likely to provide cover for main man Harry Kane this season. But the giant striker, who stands at 6ft 3in (source: Transfermarkt), still has a useful role to play after the club failed in their attempts to recruit a new forward during the recently-shut Premier League window. His aerial power and eye for goal provide a useful alternative to not only Kane, but also Son Heung-Min, Lucas Moura and the players capable of leading the Spurs front line. Llorente, who was an unused substitute in the opening-day win at St James’ Park against Newcastle United in what represents a major snub given Kane’s lack of practice going into the game, is the only tower striker at the club, especially if you’re discounting Vincent Janssen. And it appears that Mauricio Pochettino does.

Likely to happen?

With the window for European deals open until the end of the month, Spurs are certainly vulnerable to losing Llorente, who could move permanently or on loan to a club on the Continent. It appears the experienced front man wants to go, but it is difficult to see how it would be to Pochettino’s advantage to lose him at this late stage.
