After Tottenham became the first Premier League side not to sign a single player in the summer transfer window, Eric Dier wants his side to prove the rest of the league wrong and challenge for the title yet again.

He claims Tottenham didn’t need to sign anyone to challenge at the top and that their Premier League rivals had signed players worse than they already have.

Talking in The Sun, Spurs enforcer Dier said, “It’s a great challenge for us to shut everyone up really. We’re going to enjoy that challenge.

“We’ve got a fantastic squad here, fantastic players throughout the team in every position.”

Dier then went on to criticise the transfer dealings of some of their rivals, saying, “They might have signed players but not many of those players that they’ve signed are better than the players they’ve already got.

“Obviously there are signings that have been made which are players of very high quality. But in many cases I don’t believe that they’ve signed players that are better than they already have.”

OPINION
Spurs have shown over the last three years that they are capable of challenging for the title and Mauricio Pochettino has built a young team which has continued to play together. Adding to this already successful formula is not necessary as these young players are continuing to improve and are almost like making a new signing. Allowing this squad to continue to play together is what’s best for Tottenham. However, if the bigger names in the squad, mainly Christian Eriksen, see this as a lack of ambition then when the likes of Real Madrid come calling he may decide to jump ship. As long as Spurs keep succeeding and now add trophies to these performances then this squad will not need any addition. However, if this season doesn’t at least see a League Cup or FA Cup victory then those players coming into their prime now will likely get out and find a team who does win trophies.
