West Brom want to have a new right-back signed up within the coming days, before QPR travel to The Hawthorns on Saturday, according to the Express & Star.

The newspaper claims on their website that Crystal Palace defender Joel Ward is being eyed up by the Baggies, with him potentially available after Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s impressive performance for Roy Hodgson’s side at the weekend.

It is understood that West Brom are willing to spend £4million on a new right-back by signing them on an initial loan deal which has the option to be made permanent in the future.

Good move for West Brom?

The Baggies have picked up four points in their opening three games of the Championship season, but have already conceded more goals this campaign than they did in six Premier League games with Moore at the helm last term.

Manchester United and Tottenham struggled to find a way past the West Brom defence, but Bolton, Nottingham Forest and Norwich have all managed.

It is certainly an area that needs improving and Ward would be a very good signing to bolster the right-back area, which is currently being occupied by Allan Nyom.

The Cameroon international is a disaster waiting to happen and any upgrade on him would be welcome.

Ward has plenty of Premier League experience with Palace and would slot in well to Moore’s side.

Likely to happen?

It helps that Ward didn’t start in Palace’s win against Fulham on Saturday because that may mean that he is available to leave Selhurst Park.

Ex-West Brom boss Hodgson could also be willing to help out his former club and if given a reasonable enough proposal, would probably accept the Black Country club’s advances.

The worry is that would Ward want to make the move?

It’s understandable that he might not want to play in the Championship and would rather fight for his place with the Eagles.
