Liverpool have rejected a £9million loan-to-buy offer from Torino for Marko Grujic, according to a reliable journalist.

ESPN FC’s Merseyside correspondent Glenn Price reported on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday evening that the Premier League giants have snubbed a move from the Serie A club for the Serbia international.

Price explained Torino wanted to take Grujic on a season-long loan with an option to buy him for £9million next summer.

Good move for Liverpool?

Loaning Grujic out is logical following the signings of Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Fabinho, with the former two ideally equipped to play in the central attacking midfield role that is the favourite of the giant Serbian. But it only makes sense for the Merseysiders if he moves to a club where he is a regular starter and can develop his game. As for a permanent move, that should only be given the go-ahead if Jurgen Klopp and his staff conclude that the 6ft 3in midfielder (source: Transfermarkt) lacks the craft and guile to cut the mustard at Liverpool, where competition for places is more intense than for many years.

Likely to happen?

It is highly probable that Grujic will spend the season on loan away from Liverpool after slipping down the pecking order following a transfer window in which three midfielders of high calibre have been signed. The terms of the deal will need to suit the Merseysiders, who will want the midfielder’s wages paid in full, as well as a guarantee of regular playing time.
