Leeds United midfielder Oriol Rey is on the verge of signing for fourth-tier Spanish club UB Conquense, according to CMM sports journalist Manuel Noeda.

The reporter, who works for the Castilla-La Mancha news outlet in Spain, claimed on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday that Conquense have all but completed the signing of Rey, 20, just a year after the midfielder was signed by the Yorkshire giants.

Rey has failed to make a single senior appearance for Leeds after he was signed last summer following his release from Barcelona, but was on the bench for them last night (Tuesday) in the 2-2 draw with Swansea.

Good move for Leeds?

With Marcelo Bielsa on board and Leeds topping the Championship, it seems a long time ago since Victor Orta had all the fans tearing their hair out over the amount of overseas talent he was packing into the Under-23s side.

Rey was among the players signed in a mass recruitment drive in the development squad, but it looks as though his spell at Elland Road is going to be over after just 12 months.

He never played for the Whites and only made two appearances on the bench.

Obviously, the club’s staff feel as though he’s never going to make it so getting rid of him now makes plenty of sense.

Likely to happen?

It is not the first time this week that Leeds are reportedly ready to offload one of their Under-23s players.

Diari de Terrassa has reported that Adrian Balboa, another Spanish youngster, is heading towards the exit doors to join Catalonian club Terrassa.

With Balboa and Rey both seemingly close to return to their home nation in Spain, it does look quite likely that this will go ahead.
