Some West Bromwich Albion fans on social media reacted to Ahmed Hegazi’s performance during the 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough on Friday.
The Baggies and Boro were both on the brink of gaining a point from Friday’s meeting until the 91st minute when Tony Pulis’ side took the lead and eventually the win due to Daniel Ayala striking late.
While several Baggies players were criticised for their latest displays by supporters on social media, Hegazi was one of the player who received a lot of negative feedback for his performance.
One fan tweeted that the 27-year-old defender needed dropping as he had shown in all of his five appearances so far this season that he is a liability.
This Is Futbol has rounded up some of the best tweets below:
Formation works, however Hegazi doesn't, he really needs to be dropped now as he is a liability, he has shown this in every game so far. Midfield doesn't work either drop them both or drop one. The two teams we have played with anything about them have made us look average #wba

Got what we deserved tonight from a very poor performance. No agenda against Brunt but his time as a starter are done. Typical of him to be caught for pace & give away needless silly foul.. Livermore needs better support in there.. Hegazi needs dropping.. #wba

Hegazi, Gibbs and Brunt need to be dropped for Stoke simple #wba

Hegazi looks uncomfortable on the ball when playing it across the line, surely that alone centre def needs to be confident in spraying the ball. Drop hegazi, move Dawson into middle and Toesin (new loane) on the right

Hegazi has a big mistake in him EVERY game, it's hard to keep making a case for him, unfortunately he just costs us goals

Hegazi has never had a good game. Just a showy, combative defender who makes hard tackles and big headers which every one notices as his curly perm bounces around. You give me a quiet, consistent, no nonsense Gmac over 10 Hegazi's doing a David Luiz impression any day.

When has he ever had a good game? Seriously! Utter rubbish!!!!

OPINION
It’s clear that Baggies supporters would prefer Hegazi to be miles away from their first-team and his latest display did nothing to change his mind. The 6ft 3in tall (Source: Transfermarkt) centre-back has to take at least some of the blame for Middlesbrough scoring their 91st minute winner even if Craig Dawson will end up taking the majority it. Hegazi didn’t look anywhere good enough in the game against Boro and a section of fans are right to call for him to be axed as soon as possible. It’s not like Baggies manager Darren Moore doesn’t have options when it comes to making changes to his team and he could even replace Hegazi with Dawson at centre-back even if the latter may have inadvertently contributed to Boro scoring on Friday. As while Dawson may not be the most popular player among WBA fans anymore to say the least, at least the experienced defender is capable of putting in performances good enough to help his side register clean sheets.
