The Championship window is still open and that means clubs like Leeds can bring in loanees and free agents.

And they’ve just been linked with a new and exciting name.

Iran international defender Morteza Pouraliganji is a free agent after his contract expired at Al Sadd in July.

The 26-year-old centre-back has 30 caps for his country and played every minute of their World Cup campaign as they beat Morocco and drew with Portugal.

According to a report in Tasnim News, the player was expected to join top-flight Turkish side Trabzonspor, but they couldn’t reach an agreement.

And now he’s reportedly on Leeds’ radar with Marcelo Bielsa said to be interested in the enforcer.

That came after the Daily Mail claimed that Premier League side Brighton were also poised to do a deal for Pouraliganji.

Now it would appear that the road is clear for Victor Orta to steam in and seal his move to Leeds.

He’s relatively unknown off the international stage but he looked impressive in Russia over the summer, and if top-flight teams have come close to signing him, he’d represent a decent feather in the cap of Orta.

Bielsa himself is said to be interested in signing him, Leeds needs a new centre-back and he’d be available without a fee, and with relatively low wages.

We think this could be a good move for Leeds and the Iranian international.
