A section of Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to hail new boy Jamie Shackleton after his debut in the team’s remarkable 4-1 win at Derby County on Saturday evening.
The central midfielder, 18, was handed his debut at Pride Park as a 73rd minute replacement for Mateusz Klich, who had set the foundations for a stunning triumph against the promotion challengers with the first goal.
United followers were impressed by the showing from academy product Shackleton, with one likening him to Lewis Cook and other stating he “looks a right player”.

COMMENTARY:
There’s few things Leeds fans like more than an academy product rising through the ranks and delivering the goods for the first team. Few had mentioned Shackleton as a future first team star during 2017-18 or even pre-season, but new boss Marcelo Bielsa clearly likes what he sees. And who is to quibble with the Argentine alchemist after the remarkable first two matches of his reign in which Leeds have steamrolled two play-off rivals off the park. It is instructive that Shackleton was named on the bench ahead of senior men Eunan O’Kane and Vurnon Anita. Shackleton has a great opportunity to catch the eye of Bielsa in the coming weeks, as Adam Forshaw will be sidelined until end of September at the very least. There is a strong likelihood the rookie will be given his first start on Tuesday night, when Leeds host Bolton in the first round of the League Cup. Supporters will be eager for Shackleton to continue the good impression he made against Derby.
