Leeds United manager has hailed Liverpool rookie Harry Wilson as “exceptional” after his performance for Derby County at the weekend.

The loanee winger was handed his second consecutive Championship start under new boss Frank Lampard as Derby were put to sword in a 4-1 hammering by the visitors at Pride Park.

But Argentine Bielsa was lavish in his praise afterwards of the opposition, claiming Lampard had shown he has “good taste for attacking football” and that he sees “exceptional” talent in Rams trio Wilson, Tom Lawrence and Mason Mount, as quoted by theĀ Yorkshire Evening Post.

OPINION

In truth, Wilson and his Derby teammates were taught a footballing lesson by Leeds at the weekend, succumbing to not only a heavy home defeat but also totally outplayed by a side who swarmed all over them with the intensity of their play. Certainly, Argentine Bielsa, the man hailed by Pep Guardiola as the best coach in the world, has made a remarkable and immediate impact in English football. His praise of Wilson and his fellow young guns was, nonetheless, warm and generous. Liverpool know they have a real gem on their hands in the left footer, who plays on the right flank and cuts in on his favoured foot a la Mohamed Salah, one of the many A-list talents blocking his path to the Liverpool first team. At this stage in his development, the 21-year-old is better off being out on loan in the Championship, where he made a huge impact while at Hull City in the second half of last season. You learn more from losing than winning, and Wilson would have had some mighty useful lessons at the weekend.
