Mauricio Pochettino should think twice about using attacking midfielder Lucas Moura as a centre-forward next season.

Tottenham are well known to be in the market for a new striker to provide cover and competition for main man Harry Kane.

Fernando Llorente made little impact last season after joining from Swansea City, just as Vincent Janssen flopped in the previous campaign.

Intriguingly, Football London report in a question-and-answer session (Friday, 4.30pm) Pochettino is ready to use Moura in an attack spearhead role next season.

That would be the wrong move.

The 35-times Brazil international is a forward of many gifts who is mobile, direct and has the touch, technique and craft to bamboozle opposition defences.

Yet Moura is not a line leader capable of playing with his back to goal or bringing others into play in the way that Kane does so well for Spurs and did for England during their World Cup campaign.

Moreover, unlike Son Heung-Min, who has filled in impressively during Kane’s absences, Moura is not a prolific goalscorer who can be expected to plunder a goal every other game.

The Brazilian has an impressive scoring record in his career – 46 from 229 matches for ex-club Paris Saint-Germain – but he is no Kane Mark II.

Pochettino should scrap his plan for the January signing and deploy him out wide in the role he knows best, and can cause havoc from next season.
