Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is eyeing up a new striker and another centre back as his top targets between now and the end of the season with a loan move for Dominic Solanke on the cards, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claim that the Light Blues boss is keen on adding a centre forward to his growing list of new recruits, and that the 20-year-old Reds hitman, who stands at 6’1″ (source: Transfermarkt) is a potential arrival on a temporary deal.

A new centre back would follow Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson in making the move to Ibrox in the same role, the pair having lined up together in the 2-0 win over Shkupi in midweek.

Good move for Rangers?

Solanke is a tall but quick striker, and his experience of the Premier League with both Liverpool and Chelsea could prove invaluable to Gerrard next season.

He might be a young talent, but as the famous adage goes, if you are good enough, you are old enough, and Solanke certainly has the quality to lead the line at Ibrox week in, week out.

With a lack of forwards at his disposal, Gerrard needs added firepower sooner rather than later, and poaching his old club for Solanke would be a massive coup.

Likely to happen?

It all depends on what Jurgen Klopp plans to do with Solanke between now and the end of the summer window.

Gerrard would no doubt snap the German’s hand off if the youngster became available, but the Reds boss needs to decide whether a move north of the border is best for his development.

He could be used as a fleeting fringe figure at Anfield supporting the likes of Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, with the futures of Danny Ings and Divock Origi up in the air.

One to watch, as it could go all the way to the August deadline.
