A section of Leeds fans have bombarded the club with tweets about midfielder Eunan O’Kane after the official club Twitter account wished the 28-year-old a happy birthday.

O’Kane was largely criticised for his performances for most of last season and was eventually axed from the starting line-up by Paul Heckingbottom in the final few months of the club’s dire campaign.

The former Bournemouth man did start the season well under Thomas Christiansen, but as soon as Leeds’ form unraveled, so did his and many fans were left furious with his displays.

Even though it is his birthday, some Leeds fans have no held back and absolutely torn into the midfielder and the official club account in reaction to the post.

This is FutbolĀ has rounded up some of the best tweets:

OPINION

O’Kane did have a shocker last season but what are the guys behind the social media account supposed to do? Just because Victor Orta is struggling to get players in does not mean their jobs should be made redundant and they cannot post anything unless it’s a player being signed. O’Kane’s birthday just happens to have fallen into a tough few days to be a Whites supporter. He was not great last term and many fans want him gone, but he still wears the badge, he’s still a Leeds player and he deserves some respect, and so do the guys who run the social media accounts.
