Mallik Wilks has agreed a half-season loan move from Leeds United to Doncaster Rovers, it has been announced.

The Yorkshire giants revealed on their official Twitter account on Wednesday evening that the striker, 19, will spend the first half of 2018-19 at the League One club.

The forward joins Andy Lonergan, Pawel Cibicki, Tyler Denton and Jay-Roy Grot to have left the club on loan in recent days as Marcelo Bielsa reshapes his squad.

OPINION

Bielsa is not so much making room for new arrivals, as creating acres and acres of space for potential signings. The new manager explained at his unveiling that he is not a fan of bloated squads where too many frustrated players are on the fringes kicking their heels. He has sanctioned a series of temporary exits, of players young and old. Wilks slides firmly into the former category as he does not turn 20 until December. The teenager is a centre-forward who scored prolifically at youth-team level and has had some success in the lower leagues at senior level. He made a significant impact at Accrington in the first half of last season, with five goals from 24 matches, but was less successful in a post-Christmas spell at Grimsby Town, where he had only fleeting opportunities and did not score in six appearances. Once again, he has opted for a move close to home, as he drops down a division to spend half the season at ambitious Doncaster. Leeds are keen for him to thrive, and will want him playing regularly in order to develop.
