After having a second bid rejected by Hibernian for midfielder John McGinn, Celtic are planning to remain patient and play the waiting game, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper has claimed on their website that the Hoops made a second bid for the 23-year-old Scotland international on Wednesday which was worth around £2million.

However it is understood that Hibs want a fee nearer to £3million for the midfield maestro, who is out of contract next year and could be available on a free transfer if he is not sold this summer.

Celtic are now said to have other options and are unlikely to rush their hunt to sign McGinn, with no other concrete offers currently on the table.

Good move for Celtic?

Celtic know that Hibernian will have no choice but to sell McGinn at some point, otherwise the Scotland international can leave Easter Road for free next year unless he signs a new deal at the Edinburgh club.

The Hoops’ bid on Wednesday is definitely short of what the midfielder is actually worth, but Hibs will more than likely drop their demands towards the end of the transfer window once they realise that they need to sell him.

It’s a good move by Celtic to remain patient because it could see them save a lot of money in a summer in which they have already broken their transfer record to sign Odsonne Edouard from Paris Saint-Germain.

Likely to happen?

Celtic have been linked with McGinn for a long time and it seems pretty certain that he will end up making the move to Parkhead this summer.

Hibs will not want to risk letting him leave for free and they will find a compromise with the Bhoys at some point.

Brendan Rodgers should look to offer up someone like Scott Allan in the deal to sign McGinn. He is not needed by the Glasgow club and was in great form while on loan at Hibs last season.
