Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas has responded to a Tottenham fan on Twitter after he was asked if he wanted to join Spurs this summer to be a bench-warmer.

Fabregas, 31, is currently on pundit duty for the BBC at the World Cup in Russia, but that has not stopped him from being pestered by fans about where he may end up this summer.

When asked if he would be willing to join Mauricio Pochettino’s side, the ex-Arsenal midfielder responded emphatically on his personal Twitter account.

“No way mate cheers,” he said.

According to statistics website Spotrac, Fabregas is the highest earner at Stamford Bridge and is on a deal worth £206,000-a-week.

OPINION

You can’t blame the Spurs fan for trying, but it would be quite the shock if the Chelsea man was to join forces with Tottenham this summer. Pochettino will need to find some midfield reinforcements this summer, especially with Mousa Dembele likely to leave. The Belgium international is in the final year of his contract and does not look as though he will sign a new one, so to stop him leaving on a free, Daniel Levy is most likely to cash in. Fabregas is not really the kind of player who should replace Dembele. Spurs need someone who is powerful, has high-work rate and is good on and off the ball. Colombia international Wilmar Barrios looks like he would be a top replacement for Dembele, although he may have annoyed a lot of England fans on Tuesday night when he was lucky to have avoided a red card for headbutting Jordan Henderson.
