Ipswich have contacted Rangers about goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, but will only pursue a move for the 27-year-old if Bartosz Bialkowski is offloaded this summer, according to the East Anglian Daily Times.

The newspaper claims on their website that the English Championship club will do what they can to hang on to Bialkowski as he enters the final year of his contract, but will look into signing Rangers fan favourite Foderingham if they have no option but to let the Polish shot-stopper leave Portman Road.

It is understood that Foderingham has been told that he can leave Ibrox this summer by manager Steven Gerrard and the ex-Swindon goalkeeper is now looking for a new club.

Good move for Rangers?

Rangers currently have three senior goalkeepers on the books and something has to budge this summer.

Allan McGregor has already been snapped up by Gerrard so that must mean that one of Jak Alnwick or Foderingham would be on their way out and given how good Foderingham is, he would be wasting his career as a No 2 goalkeeper.

Ipswich have already had success in raiding the Gers for players when last season they snapped up Martyn Waghorn and Joe Garner.

It’ll be a good move for them if Bialkowski leaves, but it’s not great for Rangers because it’s hard to see how 36-year-old McGregor is a better long-term option than Foderingham.

Likely to happen?

At the moment it appears that there are too many factors that need to fall in place for a move to Portman Road to materialse.

Ipswich would rather hang on to Bialkowski and even if he doesn’t sign a new contract, it would mean that they would have to sell him.

Foderingham is also likely to attract more attention so it’s too soon to suggest this is anywhere near being done.
