Tottenham have tabled a bid worth £15.9million for Bestikas defender Domagoj Vida, according to A Spor.

The Turkish news outlet claims on their website that Spurs have launched a move to sign the 29-year-old centre-back, however Istabul giants Besitkas are valuing the player at £26.5million.

Vida has been in top form for Croatia at the World Cup, helping his nation reach the semi-finals, where they will play England on Wednesday night.

Good move for Tottenham?

Vida has been terrific for Croatia this summer, but Spurs should not be signing players off the back of them just having a good World Cup.

The former Dynamo Kiev defender made 18 appearances in all competitions for Bestikas last season, scoring one goal in the process after moving to Istanbul from Ukraine in January.

On his Champions League debut for Bestikas, he was sent off against Bayern Munich within 16 minutes as his side went on to lose 5-0.

It’s hard to see how he could be an improvement on any of Spurs’ current centre-back options and for the price he is valued at, he is worth avoiding.

Likely to happen?

Having only signed for Bestikas in January, Vida still has another four years left on his contract and it would more than likely take a massive bid for the Turkish club to accept it.

Daniel Levy does not really go after players who are so far away from their contract expiring because it puts the other club in a better position on the negotiating table.

It’s hard to see this deal happening.
