Arsenal are conducting two medicals today (Monday), as midfielders Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi look to complete their moves to the Emirates, according to a reliable journalist.

David Ornstein, a BBC Sports correspondent, revealed the news on his personal Twitter account on Monday morning that the long wait could be over as far as Torreira is concerned.

Now that Torreira’s World Cup duties are over, the Uruguayan can focus on completing the transfer to Arsenal where he is expected to replace Jack Wilshere at the centre of the park.

Ornstein also reports that the Gunners are once again looking to the future, as Guendouzi, 19, is a ‘high-potential prospect for the future’.

Good move for Arsenal?

Absolutely on both counts.

Torreira is a younger, fitter and less injury prone Wilshere, whose potential is through the roof. The 22-year-old showed at the World Cup what he can bring to the Emirates: tenacity, skill and versatility.

Guendozi on the other hand once again represents Unai Emery’s willingness to secure a future at Arsenal, as the 19-year-old won’t be an impact player just yet.

This new age of Gunners transfers is looking promising, and the addition of these two goes to show Emery is taking the job seriously.

Likely to happen?

Yes.

Torreira looked fit over in Russia, and although he did not feature heavily from the start, the 22-year-old played 90 minutes versus Portugal, so barring any last minute surprises, Torreira will pass ht medical with ease.

The defensive midfielder Geundouzi did not suffer any injuries last season, and is also likely to pass his medical at the Emirates on Monday.

Once this has happened, Gunners’ fans can start looking forward to the announcements that will follow in the coming days.
