Celtic are to go in with another bid to try and sign Hibernian midfielder John McGinn after seeing their first official offer rejected, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper state on their website that the Hoops tabled an offer below what their Premiership rivals wanted for their maestro, who has nine caps for Scotland under his belt, but that the Bhoys will return in an attempt to prise the 23-year-old from Easter Park this summer.

McGinn, who has just a year left on his contract with Hibs, has reportedly been a long-term target for Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers, having impressed in the middle of the park with six goals and eight assists last season.

Good move for Celtic?

It all depends on whether the Hoops can get the talented midfielder for a price they are willing to pay.

Hibs are in something of a corner when it comes to McGinn’s future, having allowed his contract to run down until its final year, but they still seem to be fighting for what they believe to be a fair valuation.

If Celtic do not meet that, will they fail to get their man?

Chances are that the longer McGinn’s future is unresolved, the more likely Hibs are to accept a cut-price deal, and with a couple of weeks until the transfer window shuts, Celtic could just hold off.

He would be an impressive addition to the Hoops’ midfield, but for the right price.

Likely to happen?

It seems massively likely that the midfielder will be on the move this summer, and it just depends on whether Celtic Park is his eventual destination.

The Bhoys certainly seem to be leading the charge but this could force the hands of other clubs to try and make a move.

For now, Rodgers stands in pole position – whether it stays that way remains to be seen.
