Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes wants to join Tottenham this summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish news outlet claims that Spurs were in the hunt to sign the Gomes, 24, last year, and now, the Portugal international is hoping that they revive that interest because he loves Mauricio Pochettino’s style of play and feels that it suits his game well.

Sky Sports Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has reported on his personal website that Barcelona value the former Benfica midfielder at £37.5million and that Arsenal are also interested in signing him.

It was understood that the Gunners were leading the race for Gomes’ signature, but this latest development suggests that Spurs are now in pole position.

Good move for Tottenham?

Gomes is definitely a good player, but due to the amount of world-class players at the Nou Camp, he just is not getting a look-in.

The Portugal international made 31 appearances in all competitions for Barca last season, with only 12 of them coming as starts.

He is an out-and-out playmaker, but Barca have made him play at full-back and on the wings, which is not helping the player to impress at all.

With Mousa Dembele’s future in doubt, Spurs should definitely be looking to sign Gomes this summer and his £37.5million is not that far out of reach for a club that is trying to launch a title campaign.

Likely to happen?

Last summer it was Tottenham who wanted Silva, this summer it is Silva who wants Tottenham.

It’s like a sitcom relationship of two people wanting each other at different times and it never quite working out for them.

Will it happen? It will more than likely hinge on whether Dembele leaves North London, but if he does, a hunt to sign Gomes will surely gain traction, especially as the player is keen on making the move.
