Steven Gerrard has already signed almost a complete new team this summer, bringing in eight new faces and making a permanent deal for Jamie Murphy.

But he’s not finished yet and it’s proof of the huge ambitions the Rangers board have under their new manager.

Allan McGregor, Jon Flanagan, Nikola Katic, Connor Goldson, Scott Arfield and Ovie Ejaria, Lassana Coulibaly and Umar Sadiq have all arrived this summer.

And Gerrard’s next reported target is Jake Cooper from Millwall.

A report in the Scottish Sun says Rangers have made a £3million bid to Millwall, but have heard nothing back.

Despite the player wanting a move, Gerrard is threatening to pull the plug on the deal but he already has a back-up in his sights.

Alan Nixon, the Sun’s main transfer man, has named the back-up option as Curtis Tilt, a 26-year-old centre-back from Blackpool.

Rangers aren’t the only side after Tilt – it was reported by the Mirror that Championship side Ipswich has started talks with Blackpool after making a £550k offer for the enforcer.  (Live blog, July 8, 13.54). Blackpool want £1million.

Rangers made a winning start to life under Gerrard with a 2-0 win over Shkupi in their first Europa League qualifier.

It wasn’t as convincing as some fans would have hoped but it will take time for the new players to gel under Gerrard.

And, as the Tilt move proves, Rangers aren’t done yet.

With £3million possibly still in the bank if the Cooper deal doesn’t come off, there might even be more players to come in after Tilt, too.

Whatever happens next season, the Rangers board have made their ambitions clear – they want to catch Celtic and they’re willing to spend to do it.
