A section of Rangers fans have been reacting on Twitter after it was reported that Steven Gerrard is closing in on signing Liverpool winger Ryan Kent on loan.

According to the Evening Times, the 21-year-old attacker is on course to become the second Liverpool player to head to Ibrox this summer, following Ovie Ejaria in joining the Light Blues on a temporary basis.

It is understood that Kent is set to be the 10th signing that the Gers have made this summer and will add some much-needed depth to Gerrard’s attacking options after the goalless draw with Shkupi in Macedonia on Tuesday.

Some Rangers fans have been left divided on signing Kent, however one bold supporter has claimed that he is “better then” ex-Celtic loanee Patrick Roberts.

OPINION

Judging by these reactions, it’s clear that the signing of Kent could go one of two ways. Is he an upgrade on what Gerrard already has in his winger options? It’s not likely. And will the English attacker play much football? Also unlikely. Kent looks as though he will just be signed up as a squad player, which does not really benefit Liverpool or the player, but it does benefit Rangers and Gerrard. There will come a point when Kent is needed, whether it be down to injuries or suspensions, and then fans will be thankful that they have signed him on loan, rather than wasting over £1million on a fringe player.
