Rangers are edging close to the signing of Liverpool attacker Ryan Kent, according to the Evening Times.

The newspaper claims via their website that Kent, 21, is on course to sign on the dotted line with the Light Blues, joining Anfield legend Steven Gerrard at Ibrox on a season-long loan deal.

It is understood that the England Under-20 international is set to become Rangers’ 10th signing of the transfer window as Gerrard aims to add depth to his attacking options after firing a blank against Macedonian minnows Shkupi on Tuesday.

Good move for Rangers?

Kent had a tough last season term, failing to score in 18 appearances across all competitions with both Freiburg and Bristol City, however a move to Scotland could see him improve his form if he is playing regularly under Gerrard.

However it is more than likely that the 21-year-old will be a back-up option the Jamie Murphy and Daniel Candeias on the wings.

It is hard to see him taking starting line-up spots off them pair, so Kent would more than likely be a squad player, filling in when needed and bring brought on in the last stages of games to add some fresh legs.

He may play that role well, and as he is going to be a loan signing it makes a lot of sense.

Likely to happen?

Gerrard has been linked with a lot of Liverpool players this summer and has already welcomed one on loan when Ovie Ejaria was snapped up by the Reds.

Kent now looks to be the second Merseysider to head to Ibrox, with this report suggesting that the deal is on the verge of being completed.
