Everton are lining up a £14 million offer to sign left-back Lucas Digne from Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish sports website reports that the Toffees are set to make the offer to bring the 25-year-old to Goodison Park, where he is widely touted to be a replacement for veteran left-back Leighton Baines.

The offer of £14 million for the left-sided enforcer’s services would match the sum that the La Liga giants paid for him back in 2016 from French side Paris Saint-Germain, and he would mark the start of a new era for the club under boss Marco Silva as potentially being one of his first signings.

Good move for Everton?

Yes, definitely. Leighton Baines is likely to be leaving the club, and at 33-years-old, he would have been replaced even if he remained on Merseyside.

Replacing Baines would be a hard job, as he was famous for his surging runs and superb crosses – but Digne is capable of living up to expectations.

He would be a fantastic addition to the Toffees, and he is only going to get better and better at the age of 25-years-old.

Likely to happen?

Yes, it does look likely. Seeming as Everton are reportedly making a £14 million bid for the Frenchman’s services, then the transfer could be set to develop quickly.

They will be hoping that no other club makes a last minute hijack for his signature, but that prospect does not appear to be on the horizon for Silva.

Everton fans could be seeing Digne in a blue shirt soon, providing there are no hiccups from this point onwards.
