Tottenham fans would love to see a marquee signing made this summer ahead of the switch to a new stadium and the team may need one to keep them at the top-end of the table.

Spurs recorded yet another top-four finish in the Premier League this season, but the competition increases every year and they can’t risk not strengthening their squad.

They have a manager in Mauricio Pochettino whole should be able to attract some elite names and that is why they should plot an ambitious raid to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

SportBild reporter Christian Falk claims on his personal Twitter account that Thiago is one of four senior players Bayern would sell this summer if they received a “lucrative offer” for them.

It would surely take a hefty sum for Germany heavyweights Bayern to part ways with Thiago, but it seems like an exit could be on the cards this summer and the North London club should consider digging into their pockets to get him.

Spurs could do with a new addition in the centre of the park and there don’t come much better than Bayern’s midfield operator.

Thiago is a central midfielder with an exquisite range of passing and he would help control possession in Pochettino’s XI, while providing a bit more skill and guile than enforcers Victor Wanyama, Mousa Dembele and Eric Dier.

The 27-year-old is in the peak of his powers right now and managed seven goals plus four assists in 32 appearances this season.

He is a serial winner from his time with Bayern and Barcelona, with a winning mentality something lacking in the Spurs dressing room.

The Spain international would light up the Premier League if given the chance and Spurs should lay down a gauntlet to their English rivals for the 2018/19 campaign by adding a world-beater to their squad.
