Leeds United have opened talks with Marcelo Bielsa, according to Football Insider, but Alan Nixon from The Sun has revealed a major stumbling block in terms of finances on Twitter.

Nixon, a reliable journalist, has revealed that the 62-year-old has previously held talks with the Premier League’s relegated side Swansea, who he eventually turned down due to finances.

Writing on Twitter, he said: “When Bielsa met Swansea he knew all their players and style. Told Jenkins who to sell. Eventually said no over finances. All the best, Leeds.”

OPINION:

With talks already having reportedly commenced, if finances were an issue then you would think the Whites would already have been aware of the idea that Bielsa opted against moving to Swansea based on that. Leeds recently joined forces with 49ers Enterprises at the end of May who will be providing investment into the first-team but it is not known yet just how significant, on a financial basis, that partnership will be. If Leeds can convince Bielsa, who has previously been dubbed the “best coach in the world,” to move to Elland Road then it would have to be said it is a signal that Andrea Radrizzani is planning on building a team which is capable of getting in the Premier League. These are potentially very exciting times ahead for the club if they can get this appointment right. However, as fantastic as it would be for the club to land someone in the mould of Bielsa, with the roller coaster that Leeds are, it could be no surprise to see them end up with a flop like former Newcastle United man John Carver.
