They say every good thing must come to an end, and it seems that phrase will befit the situation that Tottenham fans find themselves in this summer.

Amid the rumours surrounding Mauricio Pochettino’s potential departure, another fan favourite looks on the way out of north London.

Italian news outlet Tutto Sport claim that chiefs from Serie A giants Inter Milan have flown over to the English capital to hold discussions over a move for Spurs’ midfield hero Mousa Dembele, and that they are confident of agreeing a deal which will see him leave.

With just a year left on his contract, it is said that Spurs have placed a £26million price tag on his head after his domineering performances in the middle of the park, with that money likely to go to securing a replacement who can show the same qualities as the Belgian star.

So just where will they find a ball carrying central star with a good touch, pace, vision and power?

The answer could be lying in the north east at Newcastle United.

The Magpies have seen the form of Jonjo Shelvey and Mohamed Diame push Spanish youngster Mikel Merino out of the equation for now, but his skill set is similar to what Dembele has to offer.

Injuries might have limited his development at St James’ Park but his early showings were reminiscent of what the Belgian star has done over the years, and as a long term replacement, the 21-year-old is perfect for the Lilywhites.

Under Mauricio Pochettino, he could grow into a top class midfielder and establish himself in the centre of the Spurs midfield, with his height and power matched by his passing ability and vision.

With Fiebre Rojiblanca claiming he could be available for £13million, it would also be a bargain, and Spurs must be seriously considering a swoop.
