Tottenham defender Anton Walkes is close to completing a permanent move to League One club Portsmouth, according to the Portsmouth News.

The regional newspaper claims that Pompey are near to wrapping up a deal for the 21-year-old after he enjoyed a successful loan spell at Fratton Park in the second half of this season.

He is an attack-minded right-back that is product of the Spurs academy, but has managed just one senior appearance for the North London club and looks set to pursue first-team football elsewhere.

Good move for Spurs?

Walkes still has one year remaining on his contract with Spurs, but allowing him to depart this summer makes sense.

The full-back appears unlikely to force his way into Mauricio Pochettino’s plans in the near future and he appears to have found a new home with Portsmouth.

He made 12 appearances for the League One outfit after joining them in January and the Englishman can continue his development in the 2018/19 campaign.

Spurs have loaned out the defender to MLS side Atlanta United and Popmey in the past two years, which is why moving him on now on a permanent basis makes sense.

Kyle Walker-Peters is the rising star looking to break into the first team at right-back and put pressure on the likes of Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier.

Likely to happen?

The latest report suggest that Walkes’ switch to Portsmouth is on the verge of completion and can be expected to be announced imminently.
