Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has decided he wants to keep James Tavernier and Josh Windass over the summer as he sees the duo as two valuable first team players, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claims that Gerrard has instructed director of football Mark Allen not to encourage any offers for the pair after they were reported to be attracting attention from the Premier League.

It is understood Gerrard held crunch talks with Windass in Dubai last month and urged the 24-year-old attacker to ignore any speculation and just focus on his future at Ibrox.

OPINION

Tavernier and Windass were both in decent form for Rangers this season. Tavernier consistently supplied assists and scored plenty of goals for a right-back while Windass had a real hot streak in front of goal not long after Graeme Murty replaced Pedro Caixinha. The former Accrington Stanley attacker showed long spells of good form, but he also really struggled in the final couple of months of the season and was widely accused of going missing in the big games. Even though he has his consistencies, and attacking midfielder who scored 18 goals in all competitions last season is worth keeping around. Gerrard must feel as though he can cut out the inconsistent form and Windass will surely be hoping the same. It’s a surprise to see that Premier League clubs were reported to be interested in him and that could’ve been a good chance to make some money. But Gerrard clearly sees something in the attacker.
