Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly been offered the chance to quit the North London club in order to fill the vacancy at Real Madrid in “discreet overtures” by the Champions League holders.

The Daily Mail has reported that Pochettino rejected Madrid after they opened preliminary talks with the Argentinean after Zidedine Zidane quit the Bernabeu last week.

It is understood that the former Southampton manager would have found it an attractive prospect to manage Los Blancos, however he rebuffed their advances in order to protect his reputation after just recently agreeing a new deal with Spurs.

Pochettino is said to have signed a five-year deal worth £164,000-a-week and he would not want to leave for Madrid so recently after committing his future.

It’s a major boost for Spurs to have tied down Pochettino just before Zidane quit Madrid, if they took just a few more days to get the deal done, there would surely be a lot of doubts about who the Argentine would end up managing come the start of next season.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will no doubt be furious about all of this though.

Madrid have had the cheek to come in and make advances for Pochettino just days after the tight-fisted Tottenham chief finally loosened his purse strings to tie down his manager.

There’s practically no chance that Levy would ever accept any kind of compensation package offered by Madrid for Pochettino anyway, but the fact that those “overtures” have found out that Pochettino would be willing to quit Spurs one day for the Spanish giants, would be worrying to the Spurs chairman.
