A fan poll conducted by the Liverpool Echo has indicated that 89.7% of Reds fans want to see Daniel Sturridge leave Anfield this Summer.

The poll, that was conducted as an end of season review by the Liverpool Echo, showed that fans also had a dislike for backup goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, who received a negative review from 88% of the fans also.

The pair of players both had miserable seasons, Sturridge, 28, was struggling for minutes under Jurgen Klopp, and went out on loan to West Brom only to get injured; whilst Mignolet was demoted to the number two keeper spot behind Loris Karius.

Both players were integral to Liverpool’s Premier League runners-up position during the 2013/14 season, where they finished behind Manchester City on the final day of the season.

However, the tides have turned, and now fans want the pair out of the club to make way for some more promising talent.

The same poll also shows which players that Reds fans want to get more first-team opportunities, with Harry Wilson dominating with a massive 77% following his impressive stint at Hull City.

To add insult to injury, Sturridge only received 4.5% of the vote to be given another chance as a returning loanee, which really puts into perspective what Liverpool fans feel about him.

OPINION

Sturrigde has enjoyed some wonderful success at Liverpool, but it looks as though his time could be coming to an end on the Merseyside. Klopp prefers Danny Ings after Roberto Firmino, and the upcoming Dominick Solanke has meant that chances are hard to come by for the former England international. You have to feel for him, if he had not gotten injured at West Brom then things could’ve gone a very different way, but that has been the story of his career. Harry Wilson looks like a promising talent indeed, and with Klopp’s persistence on developing young players, it seems as though the chances are going to be there for the 21-year-old, who flashed at times during his time at Hull. Klopp has transformed Liverpool’s team, and that transformation has forgotten about Sturridge, who needs to move on to pastures new if he is to revive his England career.
