Rangers chairman Dave King was furious when Pedro Caixinha decided to cash in on Barrie McKay for as little as £500,000 last summer when he moved to Nottingham Forest.

King was quoted by the Scottish Sun as claiming it was “bad management” by the former Gers manager to let the attacking midfielder leave Ibrox for as little as he did to reunite with Mark Warburton in the East Midlands.

McKay, 23, had a mixed season at the City Ground, scoring five goals and supplying seven assists in 28 appearances across all competitions, but as soon as Aitor Karanka was hired, he dropped down the pecking order and was clearly not fancied by the man who replaced Warburton.

That has now led there to be a shock move on the cards with Greek news outlet SDNA reporting that the one-time Scotland international is on the verge of joining Olympiakos.

It is understood that Forest chief Giannis Vrentzos is in Athens to hold talks about offloading McKay just a year after he was flogged by Rangers for half a million pounds.

And if King was mad about how little the club sold McKay for last year, he will be even more furious now that he looks set to join European giants Olympiakos, who regularly feature in European football and are one of the most successful teams in the continent having won 44 league titles in their history.

Forest will surely be making a profit on the measly sum they paid for McKay last year.

And if he is good enough to be snapping up by Olympiakos, then surely he would have been good enough for Caixinha’s squad this season.

If he wasn’t offloaded by the Portuguese flop, there’s a chance that he would still be in the squad now and Steven Gerrard would be looking to get the most out of the attacker.

However Rangers’ fail now looks to be someone else’s gain, yet again.
